| Resumen: | Esta revisión trata de actualizar los conocimientos sobre las características clínicas, diagnósticas y terapéuticas de algunas enfermedades digestivas en la ancianidad. Los temas tratados son: 1) Prevalencia de síntomas gastrointestinales en la vejez, 2) Enfermedades crónicas y extradigestivas, 3) Efecto de algunas drogas sobre el aparato digestivo del anciano, 4) Enfermedades del esófago, 5) Ulcera péptica, 6) Trastornos funcionales del aparato digestivo y de la motilidad gastrointestinal y 7) Estreñimiento. Algunas condiciones muy prevalentes en la ancianidad, como diverticulosis, enfermedades vasculares del intestino y neoplasias, no ha sido tratada por limitaciones de espacio. (AU)^iesIn this review, an update of the knowdledge about clinics, diagnosis and treatment of a group of digestive diseases if the thrid age is presented. The following are the issues reviewed: 1) Prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms at the third age, 2) Chronic disease and nondigestive illness, 3) The effects of some drugs in the digestive system of old patients, 4) Diseases of the esophagous, 5) Peptic ulcer disease, 6) Functional alterations of the digestive system and changes of the gastrointestinal motility and, 7) Constipation. Some prevalent conditions of third age like diverticulosis, vascular diseases of the bowel and neoplasias, have not been reviewed for shortness of room. (AU)^ien.
